The Learning Center for Young Children summer program is for preschool children who have completed 2, 3 or 4 year old preschool classes this past school year. Children younger than 3 years of age must have prior preschool experience at LCYC or another program in order to be eligible to attend summer sessions. Children younger than 3 years old without prior preschool experience generally find it difficult to adjust to the routine of the large group with the several transitions from inside to outside and from activity to activity during the morning.
No co-oping is required for summer sessions. Weather permitting, about one-half of each summer session is conducted outside, providing a day-camp-like experience for the children. Each Summer Session focuses on a different science-related theme, and the daily program includes circle time, arts and crafts, cooking, table activities, water table and library time. Parents may wish to use sun screen on children to prevent sunburn. LCYC staff may not apply sunscreen unless parents send a note authorizing staff to do that. If it rains any day during the program, all activities will be conducted inside. If the weather is very hot and humid, activities may be conducted in LCYC’s air-conditioned classrooms.
