Inclement Weather Policies
INCLEMENT WEATHER AND EMERGENCY CLOSING POLICY
The Learning Center for Young Children’s Inclement Weather and Emergency Closing Policy is linked to the Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) Closing Policy. In order to find out if LCYC is closed, families need to know if Montgomery County Public Schools are closed.
During winter months if the forecast is for snow, sleet or freezing rain or if there has been a storm the day before, LCYC suggests that families check each morning for public school closings and delays. During severe weather outbreaks (e.g. thunderstorms that cause power outages or hurricanes) or Emergency situations such as happened September 11, 2001, also check for public school closings. Early morning broadcasts on local radio and television stations beginning at 6:00 A.M. announce school closings e.g. WTOP Radio 103.5 FM and local TV Channels 4, 5, 7, 8 or 9. Please listen to hear whether Montgomery County Public Schools are open, closed or delayed. You may also check the MCPS web site for closures: http://www.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/emergency/
You may wish to sign up for e-mail or text alerts concerning MCPS closures or delays. To do so go to the following website: http://www.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/emergency/alertmcps.aspx
CLOSURE POLICY: If Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) are closed, the Learning Center for Young Children (LCYC) is closed.
TWO HOUR DELAYED OPENING POLICY: If there is a two-hour delayed opening for Montgomery County Public Schools, LCYC will have a one-hour delayed opening. School begins at 10:15 A.M. Extended day operates as usual.
EARLY CLOSURE: If Montgomery County Public Schools close early, LCYC will dismiss as quickly as possible and afternoon classes are cancelled.
Please note that tuition refunds will not be made for school closings due to bad weather.
